Methyl 2-methyl-3-furancarboxylate is a chiral molecule that has anti-influenza virus activity. It has been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication in vitro and in vivo. Methyl 2-methyl-3-furancarboxylate inhibits the synthesis of viral proteins by inhibiting the polymerase function of the virus’s RNA polymerase. In addition, this compound inhibits the synthesis of new viruses by disrupting the process of transcription and replication. This molecule also exhibits antiviral activity against other RNA viruses such as Sindbis virus, vesicular stomatitis virus, and polio virus. Methyl 2-methyl-3-furancarboxylate is an aerobic molecule with functionalities that include isoxazoles, pyrazoles, and carbocations. This compound has been used as a starting point for synthesizing other anti-influenza compounds due to its strong antiviral properties and its unique functional groups.
