2-Methylbutyronitrile is a molecule that is produced by the Brassica family of plants. It has been shown to inhibit growth in vitro and in vivo. 2-Methylbutyronitrile is also able to cleave bonds in other molecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, and carboxylic acids, which may be due to its low activation energy. This chemical has been detected in urine samples of humans and has been shown to have a role in human growth rates.
