Methyl trans-2-hexenoate is a chemical that can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of methyl anthranilate, which is an intermediate in biochemical pathways. Methyl trans-2-hexenoate can be obtained by the oxidation of ethyl esters and has been shown to have an activation energy of 24.5 kJ/mol. The compound has also been found to produce carbonyl group emissions, which are toxic to humans and animals if inhaled or ingested. The metabolism of this compound produces methyl anthranilate, fatty acids, and metabolic products.
