When used as an internal standard, it can be detected through high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Metronidazole-d3 has been used to validate analytical methods for macrolides, tranquillisers, fluoroquinolones, lincosamide antibiotics and thiabendazole in animal tissues and muscle tissue.
