2-Methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone is a quinazolinone that has been found to be an inhibitor of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) production. This compound also has strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. 2-Methyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA dependent RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication. The high frequency of human activity has been shown using a patch clamp technique on human erythrocytes.
