MV 658 is a visually catalytic and selective copper-based agent with a novel mechanism of action. It is designed for the treatment of tuberculosis, HIV infection, and other encapsulated pathogens. The catalytic activity of MV 658 is based on the ability to selectively oxidize uracil to uric acid, which can then be converted to sulfur by UV light. This process has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis in organisms, as well as research into its potential use in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. MV 658 is a promising strategy for treatment of tuberculosis and HIV infections, with no cross-resistance observed in vitro against common strains of bacteria.
