Description:

2-Methylpentane is a monosodium salt that can be used as a sample preparation reagent in solid phase microextraction. It has been shown to bind to the Mcl-1 protein and inhibit its function, which may be an important step in the progression of pandemic influenza. 2-Methylpentane has also been shown to catalyze the reaction of copper chloride with isohexane, leading to formation of water vapor and the release of heat. This reaction is exothermic and can be used for analytical methods such as thermodynamic data or transfer reactions.
