Description:P-Methoxybenzylmercaptan is an inhibitor of protein synthesis. It binds to the active site of the enzyme ribonuclease A, which is involved in the processing of messenger RNA. P-Methoxybenzylmercaptan also inhibits other enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase and esterases. It has been shown to be effective against HIV infection. This compound can be used for chemical ligation reactions and as a cell culture medium additive, as it protects cells from oxidation and provides a more acidic environment. P-Methoxybenzylmercaptan has been shown to bind to amines and is being investigated for its use in drug development.
