Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that is used in the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma. It has been shown to inhibit the phosphorylation of tyrosine and protein kinase C (PKC) activity in HL-60 cells. This inhibition leads to the inhibition of signal pathways, such as those initiated by epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate also inhibits PGE2 levels in hemocytes from ascidian larvae.
