Description

Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid that can be administered by injection. It has the ability to suppress the immune system and decrease inflammation. Methylprednisolone is used to treat a variety of diseases, including chronic arthritis and eosinophilic fasciitis. This drug has been shown to have an experimental model for infectious diseases as well as side-effects profiles. The most common side effects are hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, changes in glucose tolerance, muscle weakness, and weight gain. Methylprednisolone also increases the risk of injury and myocardial infarction (heart attack). Methylprednisolone has been shown to have chemoattractant protein activity in combination therapy groups with other drugs such as methotrexate or azathioprine.
