5-(4'-Methyl-2-biphenyl)tetrazole is an alkali metal salt of 5-(4'-methyl-2-phenyl) tetrazole. It is a white crystalline solid that can be produced from the reaction of sodium tetrazole with 2,4-dichlorobenzophenone and potassium hydroxide in an ionic liquid. The yield of this reaction is high, at more than 98% after hydrothermal treatment. The chemical formula for 5-(4'-methyl-2-phenyl) tetrazole is C8H6N3NaO3. This compound has been used as an angiotensin receptor antagonist, with chloride and fluoride as the counterions. It also has ionic and azide groups, which are useful for introducing an azide group to other compounds to form amides or esters.
