Description:Moperone is a synthetic opioid that binds to and activates the mu-opioid receptor. The activation of this receptor inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-1β, which are associated with inflammation. Moperone also has been shown to bind to dopamine receptors, blocking their ability to bind dopamine, which may be responsible for some of its side effects. Moperone was originally developed as an anti-inflammatory drug but was not found to be effective at treating inflammatory diseases. It is still used in some countries for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders.
