4-Methoxy-1-naphthaldehyde (4MNA) is an aromatic aldehyde that has been shown to have anticancer effects. It is found in the urine of women with cervical cancer and has been shown to be effective against liver cancer cells. The synthesis of 4MNA involves the formation of an intermolecular hydrogen bond between the reactants, which can be accomplished by using a variety of methods including asymmetric synthesis and chemical reactions. 4MNA is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds such as phenylacetaldehyde and benzaldehyde. This compound has been shown to inhibit aminotransferase activity in humans.
