It is an optimum concentration for PCR amplification, and has been shown to induce cell lysis in vitro. 5-Methylphenazinium methosulfate does not require any additional components, such as dinucleotide phosphate or calcium ions, to act as a PCR reagent. This agent also has a pharmacological activity against cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to interfere with the function of the cytosolic calcium ion pump.
