Description:1,2-Methylenedioxy-4-nitrobenzene (MDNB) is an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes. It has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on the metabolism of isosafrole in rat liver microsomes and also inhibits the transfer reactions between methylene groups in fatty acids. MDNB has been used to treat inflammatory bowel disease and other inflammatory diseases. This drug may have anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. The optical properties of MDNB are similar to those of piperonyl butoxide, which is also used to treat inflammatory bowel disease.
