Meisoindigo is a natural compound that has been found to have anti-cancer properties. It is a derivative of indirubin and was first isolated from the root of Meiso, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Meisoindigo inhibits cellular transformation by binding to the toll-like receptor and inhibiting protein synthesis. It also induces apoptosis by activating caspase-3 and blocking the mitochondrial pathway. The apoptotic effect of meisoindigo is synergistic with hyperproliferative disease, as it can induce apoptosis in cells that are resistant to doxorubicin.
Meisoindigo has also been shown to have an effect on energy metabolism. It binds to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products and inhibits DNA synthesis, thereby disrupting the cell cycle at G1 phase. This inhibition leads to apoptosis of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, suggesting that meisoindigo may be useful for hyperproliferative
