Product Information
2-Methylthiopyrimidin-4-OL is an antibacterial agent that is synthesized from 2,4-dichloropyrimidine and methyl iodide. The molecule has a tautomeric form, which can exist as a thione or a urea. In the thione form, it has an inhibitory effect on streptococcus faecalis and other bacteria. 2-Methylthiopyrimidin-4-OL also absorbs ultraviolet light and halides. It is stable to UV radiation at high concentrations and to mercury chloride at low concentrations. The molecule's regiospecificity allows for its use in the synthesis of pyrimidine nucleosides such as cytidine 5'-monophosphate.
