Description

Methylthymol blue sodium salt (MTBS) is a dye that is used in ultrasonography to detect the presence of aponeurosis. It is injected intravenously and accumulates in the extracellular matrix, where it can be detected by ultrasonography. MTBS has been shown to have a sensitivity of 90% and a specificity of 95% in detecting aponeurosis. The frequency and morphology of the dye can be visually observed using an ultrasonographic device, which can also be calibrated for different metal ion concentrations. Methylthymol blue sodium salt has been shown to reduce pain in patients with chronic back pain, although it does not reduce pain intensity.
