Product Information
- 3-Nitro-4-fluorobenzoic acid methyl ester
- 4-Fluoro-3-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester
- Benzoic acid, 4-fluoro-3-nitro-, methyl ester
Methyl 4-fluoro-3-nitrobenzoate (MFNB) is an inhibitor of the enzyme nitrification. Nitrification converts ammonia to nitrite, which is then converted to nitrate. MFNB inhibits this conversion by binding to the enzyme nitrification and blocking its activity. MFNB has a high degree of selectivity for nitrification, with no significant inhibitory effect on other enzymes such as esterification or kinases. This inhibition can be beneficial for the treatment of diseases that are caused by bacteria with elevated nitrate levels in their tissues, such as ulcerative colitis. Methyl 4-fluoro-3-nitrobenzoate also has a homolog called methyl 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzoate (MCNB), which is more potent than MFNB because it does not undergo esterification. The higher potency of MCNB can be attributed to its ability to bind more tightly to the target enzyme and block it from
