Description:2-Methylthiopyrimidine-4,6-diamine is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme DNA polymerase. It has shown to be effective against hepg2 cells and other cancer cells. The compound binds covalently to the active site of the enzyme, where it stabilizes the transition state and deshields the electrostatic field around the nucleophilic nitrogen atom. This interaction leads to a decreased affinity for ATP, which is required for DNA synthesis. 2-Methylthiopyrimidine-4,6-diamine also has antimalarial activity and inhibits amide bond formation in hepg2 cells.
