Description:

1-Methylisoquinoline is a pyrimidine compound that is a precursor to the quinoline derivatives. It has shown some biological properties, such as an inhibitory effect on the uptake of acetylcholine in the brain and its ability to cause cancer cell death. 1-Methylisoquinoline has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful for treating nervous system diseases. This molecule can be synthesized by palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction from 1-methylpyridinium chloride and trimethylborane. The n-oxide form of this compound has been shown to react with halides, such as hydrochloric acid or benzenesulfonyl chloride, giving products that are not quinolones. The kinetic studies of this process have been performed at different temperatures, showing that the rate of reaction increases with higher temperature.
