6-Methylheptane-2,4-dione is a chromatographic agent that binds to metal ions by chelation. It has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus and other bacteria. 6-Methylheptane-2,4-dione can be used in the production of pharmaceutical preparations, such as lysine residues, and has been shown to exhibit anti-cancer properties. The structure of this molecule consists of a chromatographic ring system with an unsaturation at the 2 position.
