Description:

Methyl pyrazine-2-carboxylate is a ligand with depressant activity. It has been shown to bind to copper ions and form a complex. This complex inhibits the enzyme catalysis of metal-dependent enzymes such as tyrosinase, which is an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. The ligand also binds to biphenyl, forming a bidentate ligand that binds to chloride ions in nonpolar solvents. The binding of the ligand to the chloride ion stabilizes the negative charge on the oxygen atom, leading to hydrogen bonding with water molecules. The presence of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) or other halogenated hydrocarbons leads to the formation of a tetrazole ring, which can be oxidized by nitric oxide radicals.
