The compound 8-Methyl-3H-quinazolin-4-one is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by blocking the mitochondrial membrane, leading to the depletion of ATP. This compound also prevents tumor progression by inhibiting the production of tyrosine kinase enzymes. 8-Methyl-3H-quinazolin-4-one has been shown to be effective in treating non-small cell lung cancer and pancreatic cancer. This drug molecule is also capable of preventing tumor formation in mice with a mutation in p53, which is a protein known to regulate DNA repair and prevent tumor development. The inhibition of tyrosine kinase activity by 8MQO leads to decreased inflammation, which may account for its anti-inflammatory properties.
