4-Methoxyphenylacetonitrile (4MPAN) is a fluorescent compound that emits light when excited by a laser. It is an organic compound that can be synthesized from sinalbin, chloride, hydrogen chloride, and light emission. 4MPAN has been shown to have enzyme activities that include the ability to inhibit cytochrome P450 enzymes and glucosinolate hydrolases. 4MPAN has high affinity for nucleophilic substrates such as thiols and amines. The molecular geometry of 4MPAN is metastable, which makes it useful in immobilization reactions. In addition, the fluorescence properties of 4MPAN make it useful in marine microbiology because it can be used to detect microorganisms based on their optical properties.
