2-Methyl-5-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester is a carboxylate group, which can be found in Achyranthes bidentata. It has been found to have regiospecificity in the formation of calycosin and dimethylformamide. The ethyl esters of 2-methyl-5-nitrobenzoic acid methyl ester are also known to exist. This molecule has a dipole moment of 0.9 D, as well as an aldehyde and carboxylate group, which are both functional groups that can be found in naphthalenes. This compound was expressed from the plant Achyranthes bidentata and has been shown to equilibrate with amide groups through its amide bond.
