Manganese (IV) oxide, activated, is an inorganic chemical compound that is used as a reducing agent. It is a black solid with the formula MnO2. This compound has been shown to be an oxidizing agent by removing nitrate from solutions. Manganese (IV) oxide, activated has also been shown to activate superoxide and produce hydrogen peroxide from water. Manganese (IV) oxide, activated binds to body proteins and may play a role in neural cell function. Manganese (IV) oxide, activated has been shown to have antithrombotic activity because it inhibits blood clotting by inhibiting the conversion of prothrombin into thrombin.
