N-Methyl-N-propargylbenzylamine HCl is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) and blocks the production of prostaglandins. This drug has low potency, although its selectivity for COX-2 makes it an attractive candidate for treatment of inflammation associated with arthritis. N-Methyl-N-propargylbenzylamine HCl also has been shown to have receptor activity on toll-like receptor 4 in human biological samples. It has been shown to decrease dopamine levels in rats, suggesting that it may be a potential treatment for Parkinson's disease. In addition, this drug was found to decrease epithelial mesenchymal transition and increase expression of p53 protein in prostate cancer cells, as well as inhibit 5HT2 receptors in rat brain tissue. This drug also increases 5HT concentrations and decreases diastolic blood pressure in humans.
