It is eliminated through the urine and bile, with a small fraction being excreted through the lungs. Methyl4-hydroxy-3-iodobenzoate reacts with oxidizing agents to form tricyclic compounds. This reaction has been shown to be reversible, which may be useful for polymers as well as other applications. Methyl4-hydroxy-3-iodobenzoate is also able to inhibit fungal growth and produce toxic effects on many different types of fungi, including aflatoxin producing species. The chemical structure of methyl4-hydroxy-3-iodobenzoate is similar to that of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4HB), which has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in some studies.
