S-Methylglutathione is a product of the reaction between L-cysteine and glutathione. It is involved in the synthesis of glutathione and acts as a cofactor for many enzymes, including those that catalyze the conversion of ammonia to urea. S-Methylglutathione has been shown to protect against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity by reducing oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species.
