Description:
Methylcyclopentane is a cycloalkane with the chemical formula of CH3(CH2)4. It is formed by the acid-catalyzed reaction of cyclohexane (C6H12) with hydrochloric acid (HCl). Methylcyclopentane is a byproduct of this process, which also produces hydrogen chloride gas. Methylcyclopentane can be used as a building block to create other compounds such as fatty acids and nepeta cataria.
