Methyl acetimidate hydrochloride (MAH) is a chemical substance that inhibits the function of protein targets by covalently binding to them. MAH has been shown to be an irreversible inhibitor of ATP channels and is most active against fetal bovine serum. It binds reversibly to epidermal growth factor, targeting its carboxy terminal. The methyl group in MAH is transferred from the enzyme-inhibitor complex to the target molecule, forming a covalent bond. The detection sensitivity for this substance is 10 ppm or less.
