4-Methyl-L-phenylalanine is a low energy amino acid that is metabolized by hydroxylase enzymes to produce the corresponding phenols. It has been shown that 4-methyl-L-phenylalanine inhibits cytochrome P450 enzymes and causes a decrease in the hydroxylation of benzoic acid, which may be related to the cancer drug metronidazole. This molecule also has a regulatory effect on the transcriptional regulation domain and can be used for modelling.
