    Product Information

    Name:5-Methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole
    Synonyms:
    • 5-Methylindoline
    Brand:Biosynth
Description:5-Methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole is an organic compound that contains a hydrogen atom, an alkoxy group, and a hydrogenating group. It is used as a catalyst in the hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds. 5-Methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole has been shown to catalyze the hydrogenation of benzaldehyde to benzoic acid. This reaction occurs with palladium as a catalyst and an alkoxy group attached to the indole ring. The alkoxy group is required for this reaction to occur because it activates the indole ring by adding electron density to the carbon atom at position 2. This activation increases the reactivity of the indole ring towards nucleophiles like palladium (which adds electrons on to carbon atoms at positions 1 and 2) and prevents it from reacting with other molecules in solution.
