• Description: 5-(N-Maleimido)fluorescein diacetate is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect single-stranded DNA. This compound is not toxic to cells and has been shown to be a good indicator of the presence of double-stranded DNA. 5-(N-Maleimido)fluorescein diacetate is taken up by cells, where it binds to the dsDNA in the nucleus. The fluorescence is then detected using microscopy or flow cytometry. 5-(N-Maleimido)fluorescein diacetate can be used as a fluorescent probe for herpes simplex virus and other DNA viruses. It also binds to liposomes and has been shown to inhibit HIV replication in vitro and in vivo.
