Description:2-Methyl-5-nitroanisole is a phenol that can be synthesized by the demethylation of 2,6-dichlorophenol with tribromide. It can also be synthesized from benzaldehyde and benzoic acid. 2-Methyl-5-nitroanisole has been used as a cardiotonic for its ability to increase the strength of heart contractions. It also has been shown to be an intermediate in the synthesis of boron compounds. This compound is fluorinated and yields high yields when synthesized from benzaldehyde and benzoic acid. 2-Methyl-5-nitroanisole is a nucleophile that reacts with electrophiles such as amines, thiols, sulfides, alcohols, and carboxylic acids.
