4'-(3-methyl-2-butyenyloxy)benzaldehyde is a toxic chemical that is used as a solvent and intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It has been shown to be an effective acetone substitute for the production of high yields of hydrochloric acid from hydrochloric acid and ethanol. 4'-(3-methyl-2-butyenyloxy)benzaldehyde is also able to react with potassium hydroxide to form an equivalence mixture of benzaldehyde and acetone.
