Product Information
Name:Methyl piperidine-3-carboxylate
Synonyms:
- Piperidine-3-carboxylic acid methyl esterMethyl nipecotate
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Methyl piperidine-3-carboxylate (PMP) is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme ido1, which is involved in the metabolism of tryptophan to serotonin. It was synthesized by reacting methyl piperidine-3-carboxylate with 3 equivalents of 1,2-propanediol and 2 equivalents of potassium carbonate in an aqueous solution at room temperature for 2 hours. This reaction yields PMP as a white solid that can be characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and thin layer chromatography. PMP has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of ido1 and may be useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases because it inhibits the production of serotonin.
