(R)-Mandelonitrile lyase (RL) is a protein that catalyzes the formation of mandelonitrile from L-cysteine and D-glucose. RL is an enzyme that belongs to the group of oxidoreductases, which are enzymes that catalyze redox reactions. RL is an immobilized holoenzyme that requires plant tissue to function. It has been shown to have a high ph optimum, with a range between 5-6. The sequence of RL has been sequenced and found to have four subunits: two flavoproteins, one cytochrome b5, and one tetrahydrofolate reductase.
