Description

(R)-(+)-Methylsuccinic acid is a catalysed, synthetic, asymmetric synthesis of the methylsuccinic acid skeleton. It is a liquid crystal compound that has been shown to be spontaneously racemic and have enantiopure versions of itself. The stereoisomers are an important part of its biological activity.
Methylsuccinic acid plays a role in the biosynthesis of butanol, which can be used as a biofuel or for industrial purposes.
