Description:Methyl phenyl sulfoxide (MPSO) is a reactive compound with a potential redox of +0.27 V. It can be used as an electron donor and acceptor, and has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptomyces coelicolor by reacting with the sulfhydryl group on cysteine residues in bacterial ribosomes. MPSO has been used in wastewater treatment and as a catalyst for asymmetric synthesis reactions. In addition to its use as a chemical, MPSO has also been studied as a model system for studying redox reactions.
