Product Information
- 2-Phenyl-6-methylpyridine
- 2-Picoline, 6-phenyl-
- Pyridine, 2-methyl-6-phenyl-
2-Methyl-6-phenylpyridine is a pyridinium salt that reacts with proton to form the corresponding pyridinium cation. It forms a mesoporous metal ion complex with titanium, which has been shown to catalyze the hydrogenation of alkyl halides. The reaction mechanism for this process is thought to proceed through a hydride transfer mechanism in which 2-methyl-6-phenylpyridine donates its hydride ion to the substrate, forming an intermediate c-h bond. This bond is then cleaved by a nucleophilic attack from the metal ion, followed by release of the product and regeneration of 2-methyl-6-phenylpyridine.
2-Methyl-6-phenylpyridine has also been shown to react with electrophiles such as alkylating agents and aldehydes, leading to bond cleavage and formation of heterocycles
