4-Methoxy-4'-nitrostilbene is an aromatic compound that appears as a yellow solid. It is used in the synthesis of other compounds, such as chloride and acetonitrile. The epoxidation of this molecule is the first step in a two-step process to make an olefinic compound. This reaction is accomplished with hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant and iodosobenzene as the stabilizer. The second step involves a stepwise addition of chlorine to the epoxide intermediate to form an olefinic product. 4-Methoxy-4'-nitrostilbene can be used as a fluorescent dye for optical analysis or it can be used to provide solvents for other reactions.
