4,4'-Methylenebis(2,6-dimethylphenol) is an ether linker that has a telechelic structure. It is used as a coating for plastics and metals to increase thermal expansion. 4,4'-Methylenebis(2,6-dimethylphenol) can be used as an inhibitor of aromatase. This chemical also has a film-forming property and can be used as a film-forming polymer in coatings or as an organic solvent for skin cancer treatment. 4,4'-Methylenebis(2,6-dimethylphenol) has been shown to have no carcinogenic effects in animal models. This chemical may also be used to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics such as penicillin. It binds by competitive inhibition with penicillin-binding proteins and inhibits cell wall synthesis by preventing the formation of antibiotic-inhibitor complexes with enzymes required for cell wall biosynthesis.
