4-Methylbenzyl Mercaptan is a monomer that is used in the production of polymers. It reacts with sulfide to form the polymer polysulfide, which can be used as a synthetic rubber. 4-Methylbenzyl Mercaptan reacts with abscisic acid to form the polymer polysulfide, which can be used as a synthetic rubber. 4-Methylbenzyl Mercaptan has been shown to lower viscosity and increase molecular weight of polymers. It is also an acylation reaction product that reacts with dipole and adsorbates and has been shown to have low toxicity on living organisms.
