    Description:Methylamine is a simple organic compound with the formula CH3NH2. It is a colorless gas with an unpleasant fishy odor. The simplest example of an organic base, it is used in the manufacture of plastics and resins, as a starting material for the production of methyl methacrylate, and in the synthesis of other chemical compounds. Methylamine has been found to be a substrate for peptide hormones such as ACTH and TRH. This property makes it useful in analytical methods for measuring these hormones in human serum or plasma. Methylamine hydrochloride has been shown to have biochemical properties that are similar to those of methylamine but its reaction solution is more stable than that of methylamine. Methylamine hydrochloride can be used as a model system for studying reactions involving methylamine, such as the synthesis of esters from carboxylic acids and alcohols via acid-catalyzed reactions
