The drug is currently undergoing toxicity studies in rats and dogs. 6-Methoxy-9H-purine can be administered orally or by intravitreal injection. Intravitreal injection is a method where the drug is injected into the eye through a needle. This route of administration may reduce systemic toxicity because it leaves less drug in the bloodstream.
