Description

2'-Methoxyflavonol is a flavonoid that has been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential, which is a vital component for respiration. 2'-Methoxyflavonol has also been shown to be an effective antiviral agent against influenza virus. 2'-Methoxyflavonol's antiviral activity may be due to its ability to dissolve the protein matrix of the virus and inhibit viral RNA synthesis. It was found that 2'-methoxyflavonol can reduce the radiation-induced cell death of human brain cells by inhibiting apoptosis through inhibition of caspases (enzyme responsible for apoptosis) and DNA fragmentation. This compound also acts as a diagnostic agent for certain risk groups and as an actuator for growth factors.
