Description:Methyl sinapinate is a reaction solution that contains the ester of sinapic acid and methanol. This reaction product is an amorphous substance with a melting point of about 140°C. The compound is soluble in water, methanol, and acetone but insoluble in ether. The optimum pH for the esterase activity is 5-6. Methyl sinapinate has a molecular weight of 170.2 g/mol and the IUPAC name is methyl 3-(3-hydroxy-5-methylcyclohexyl)-2,4-dioxoimidazolidine-1 carboxylate. It can be found naturally in ferulic acid, melaleuca alternifolia, and other plants. This compound has been shown to have biological properties such as protease activity and denaturation.
