4'-Methoxyflavone is a flavonoid that is found naturally in many plants, including soybeans and licorice. It has been shown to have a broad spectrum of activity against human pathogens, including strains of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. 4'-Methoxyflavone also inhibits the energy metabolism of rat liver microsomes by blocking the conversion of acetoacetate to acetyl-CoA, leading to cell death. The compound is active against solid tumours, skin cancer, and wastewater treatment. 4'-Methoxyflavone also has an inhibitory effect on epidermal growth factor (EGF) induced cell proliferation. It can be used as an anticancer agent for prostate cancer cells by inhibiting the activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor.
